In returning for the fall semester, Portico has added an additional item to its menu. The new acai bowls have been a popular commodity among the faculty and students of Southeastern University.
The idea of bringing acai bowls into Portico was initiated after Levi Larson, coffee house manager, began looking for things to add to the menu.
Portico’s vision, as a whole, is to make the world a better place. The coffeehouse continues to implement its vision by making sure the profits go towards Southeastern’s Missions Department.
“The profit has increased every single day since the acai bowls were released. Many students may not be aware that the money they’re investing is actually going towards the missions department,” Larson said.
“Every week we beat our best record with profits, every single day now we hit the best we’ve ever done,” Larson said.
After speaking with several students who buy the bowls regularly, it is clear that the changes have been effective. “I love the acai sold at Portico. It’s affordable and taste very similar to the acai bowls sold at Tea Largo. Everyone loves acai, so I have a lot of friends who buy one everyday. I love the new changes Portico has made,” Valentina Espinoas, a junior at SEU, said.
The acai bowls served at Portico give the students healthier options, it’s vegan friendly and is also vegetarian friendly. “This new addition was to ensure that everyone feel at home and to make the campus more diverse,” according to Larson.
Portico’s staff continues to focus on serving people and upholding their vision of helping to make the world a better place.
